DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
  • Work with you to develop a manuscript from an initial concept, outline, or
    draft.
  • Make suggestions about content, organization, and presentation.
  • Suggest or provide information about topics for your consideration -
    researching, writing, and rewriting as needed.

SUBSTANTIVE EDITING
  • Identify and solve problems of overall clarity and accuracy.
  • Reorganize paragraphs, sections, or chapters to improve the order in
    which the text is presented.
  • Write or rewrite segments of text to improve readability and flow.
  • Revise any aspects of the text to improve its presentation.

COPYEDITING/LINE EDITING
  • Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word use while
    maintaining your voice.
  • Check for or impose a consistent style and format.
  • Read document for overall clarity with the prospective audience in mind.
  • Cross-check references, figures, tables, equations, for consistency and
    accuracy.

PROOFREADING
  • Identify text errors using standard proofreading marks or the track
    changes feature in Microsoft Word.
  • Check for problems with page layout and typeface.
  • Look for and correct typographical errors.
  • Correct errors or inconsistencies that may have escaped your notice.
